Between the lines: Kristin Fehlauer
- What’s the longest or most unusual word you’ve used (in your texts) this week?
I tried to get away with inculcate recently, before deciding it was a little too “fancy” for the kind of text. I also recently came across suretyship, which I was convinced was a made-up word, but turns out to be correct. Translation work is great for learning new words in both languages!
- Of all the languages you don’t speak, which one would you most like to learn and why?
I’ve always wanted to learn a difficult and obscure language that could work like a secret code, but I lack the discipline. I think the Celtic languages are particularly lovely, especially Irish Gaelic and Welsh.
- What are you reading right now?
I’m usually in the middle of a bunch of things. Right now I’m listening to an audiobook of She by H. Rider Haggard, rereading Doomsday Book by Connie Willis, and delving into a collection of short stories by L.M. Montgomery.
- Beer or wine?
Either, depending on the setting. Beer for thirst-quenching on a hot day, red wine for relaxing in the evening.
- Beach holiday or city break?
I like the ocean, but I’m not a fan of touristy beach resorts. A city on the sea is just about perfect!
- Chocolate or vanilla?
I only tolerate vanilla if it’s covered in chocolate sauce.
